20 July 2018

Hard Rock Hotel Penang was honoured to receive the CSR Malaysia Award 2018, “Company of The Year” for the hotel category. The hotel was selected to receive the award by a panel of high calibre judges representing corporate and social bodies for going the extra mile to reach out to needy communities and to engage in sustainability endeavours in efforts to create a better Malaysia. All winners from various industries were selected based on the authenticity of their philanthropy initiatives, the creative implementations and frequency of initiatives held and the significant impacts created from the initiatives in support of the local community.

CSR Malaysia Awards 2018 was organized by CSR Malaysia magazine, a free publication that shares the unwavering commitment of corporations in Malaysia with a vision and mission to create awareness on the growing need to lend a helping hand to make the world a better place for all. The event held at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur which was supported by Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development was attended by some 450 corporate personalities and foreign dignitaries.  Hard Rock Hotel Penang was one of the 35 listed and private companies in Malaysia being honoured, recognized and awarded for going the extra mile to reach out to needy communities and to engage in sustainability endeavours in efforts to create a better Malaysia. Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia who is also the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Seri Dr Wan Azizah Binti Wan Ismail graced the event alongside with CSR Malaysia’s Chairman Dato’ R. Rajendran and its Co-Chairman/Managing Editor Lee Seng Chee.

“It is our first time to have been recognised by a corporate social responsibility awards programme and it is indeed an honour to be acknowledged for our philanthropy success. Hard Rock Hotel Penang lives up to its motto, “Take Time To Be Kind”, and prides itself on organising approximately six philanthropy campaigns a year to support the local community. Each campaign is originally created and unique in its own approach. The hotel is committed to donating a hundred per cent of the profit generated from the campaigns to selected non-governmental organisations that support underprivileged families and individuals,” John Primmer, Hard Rock Hotel Penang general manager proclaimed. “We believe in creating a harmonious working environment and promoting a special bond among the employees through our charitable initiatives. Hence, these remarkable initiatives are independently executed with voluntary assistance from our dedicated employees without any funding or aid from our headquarter office.”

Among the many annual philanthropy initiatives organised by Hard Rock Hotel Penang were Rock-A-Duck, Rock To Rock Run and the Pinfest Rockers’ Meal. The inaugural Rock-A-Duck 2017 campaign that was submitted by the hotel for the award selection successfully raised RM50,000 for Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Persekutuan, a school for the hearing impaired to build a zinc roof to provide shelter for the students to assemble and perform their daily recreational activities.

Due to its success, the hotel is currently running the Rock-A-Duck campaign for the second time this year to support a similar cause and this time it is for Sekolah Kebangsaan Jenis (C) Poay Wah, a national primary school that receives limited operating fund support from the government. The hotel encourages the public to support the cause by donating RM10 in exchange for a limited edition rubber duck and an entitlement to a lucky draw. Hard Rock Hotel Penang will invite a public figure to select the winners, give away the prizes and to present a mock cheque to the selected school on the draw date.
